  • Handle with quartz glass

    1.    Quartz glass is fragile and should be handled with care when transported and emplaced.

    2.    Quartz glass is a material with an extremely low thermal expansion. A product can crack if a rapid temperature change occurs while a component with a different coefficient of thermal expansion is attached, fastened, or clamped to it.

    3.    Devitrification can easily occur at elevated temperature when quartz glass is contaminated .To those products that are not ready for use in high temperature, cleaning is needed before use .To do this ,It is recommended to wash the product in deionized or distilled water with a degreasing agent added to the water .After this washing ,the product should be immediately flushed with deionized water and then placed in a 5 vol % solution of hydro-fluoric acid for 5 minutes ,or placed in a 5 vol % solution of ammonium bifluorided for 10 minutes ,and then flushed again with deionized water and dried immediately.

    4.    It is not recommended to use quartz products at elevated temperature at intervals ,This is because the expansion index and gravity of quartz glass are very closed to that of β-cristobalite ,the outcome of devitrification .When quartz glass is used at an elevated temperature continuously, it can perform well as its cubage does not change very much even if a devitrification area enlarges. When the temperature further decreases to 200-275℃,the cristobalite structure will change from β-cristobalite to α-cristobalite with the cubage greatly, and in this case, if a devitrification layer on a product is very deep, it may break.

    5.    Hydrofluoric acid and hot phosphoric acid at 200℃ erode quartz glass obviously.
